“Always striving to improve”
The pursuit of health and fitness is not cleverly-posed IG pics of food and bodies featuring the hashtags #keto #fitfam #cleanse. It is a practice of self-improvement involving trial and error, adaptation and consistent effort. What works for you may not work for someone else, therefore, you should not assume that whatever someone else does, should or must work for you. There is no magical ‘RIGHT’ diet, no magical ‘RIGHT’ exercise plan, only a healthy version of ‘you’, defined by ‘you’. Exercise selection and loading should be based on an individual’s physical competency and the effectiveness of those exercises in helping you obtain your intended goal.
Whether you’ve never picked up a weight in your life, or are looking to expand your workout routine, allow me to help you discover a maintainable way to enjoy living a heathy life.

自己紹介 (じこしょうかい//jiko-shoukai)
“Me” aka Brendan Takata
I enjoy a lot of things. I like movies, I like sports, I like travelling, I like video games and I like to move. I’m a provincial level Olympic weightlifter and basketball/golf/hockey/tennis player. I enjoy being in the kind of shape where I can train for a weightlifting competition and because I want to, run ‘Seek the Peak’ (16 km – from Ambleside Beach to the peak of Grouse Mountain, then back to the chalet).
I like to move in sport, in life and in the gym. There is no piece of equipment in the gym that I haven’t used effectively in some capacity. Therefore, if there is a piece of equipment in the gym that you would like to use or is applicable to your goal, I can definitely teach you how to use it effectively. I also offer online exercise programming via the TeamBuildr App (https://www.teambuildr.com/).

What Clients Say
Jillian
I started personal training sessions with Brendan after a very long hiatus from being in the gym, and fitness in general. I was pretty anxious about going back to the gym but training with Brendan boosted my confidence in the movements I was doing and in general as well. He tailored my program to my ability and adjusted it along the way as I got stronger, which was super satisfying. He was super encouraging and motivating along the way. If you’re feeling nervous about getting into strength training I would highly recommend training with Brendan!

I came to Brendan on a referral from my Physiotherapist and have been blown away with my progress! I was suffering with a deteriorated lower lumber (a really bad back) and at 27 I couldn’t stand for more 30 minutes without pain and weakness. After a year, I’m back to lifting heavy and can now dance, stand and walk for multiple hours without major pain. (plus my shoulders and legs look great)
I needed to build muscle to stabilize my back but was really scared to train it. Brendan’s background in Kinesiology and his patience in understanding my mobility issues really came through in the programming. He built a program that fit my schedule and made sure I had everything I needed to follow it on my own - warm ups, activations and even a program for traveling. I always looked forward to workouts with him (even though I knew they would be hard). I would definitely recommend him for any fitness goals, injury recovery, and training plans.

I started working with Brendan for Olympic weightlifting just over a year ago, and it's one of the best decisions I've ever made. I had been dealing with nagging injuries for years and was losing my motivation, but Brendan's programming and the technique adjustments we worked on have made a huge difference. My lifts look and feel so much better now! Brendan truly cares about his clients and you won't find a trainer who gets more excited about your progress or PRs. He is extremely knowledgeable and I highly recommend him to anyone looking to improve their weightlifting or general fitness, or safely get back to training after an injury. Thank you Brendan!
